We’re talking about a $25 device that will allow you to organize your music and videos on your smartphone or tablet. This could be a device that you can buy for the same price as your computer, or you could get it for free. In either case, it’s a nice idea for those of you who don’t want to build your own media centers.
The main thing you need to know about using a device is that its a lot cheaper to store it on your computer than your phone. The main thing is that it might be easier to keep it on your phone, and not be able to get it back.
As I mentioned a couple of paragraphs up, the major advantage of using a tablet or phone is that you have access to more space. This becomes a big advantage when you’re looking to build a small media center. An iPad or iPhone would be smaller, but you could fit your music and videos on there. Most tablets have built-in storage, but if you want to have more space, you can buy bigger devices.
The problem is that the best music and video files are usually more than you can fit on your phone. And if you have a tablet, you have to have an external hard drive that you can mount to the tablet. Plus, you need to be able to plug it into your computer and have it access your files.
For people who don’t have the money to buy a big, fancy external drive, you can build a mini-micro-HDD with an SD slot on to it. Just hook it up to the computer, plug it in, and it’ll mount to your computer. If you’re really determined, you could even build a brick-out Micro-HDD with a built-in SD slot.
You can create a USB drive that fits on your thumb drive and plug it in. If there’s no SD connection, you’ll need to plug it into your hard drive and attach a USB cable. You can then connect your phone to the SD card to be charged. If you’re serious about having your files there, you could use USB to transfer them to the SD card.
