I know the two are closely connected, but there’s a lot to explain about scotch and ginger beer, so let me explain it right here. Scotch is a distilled spirit made from the distillations of the alcohol-producing barley plant called malted barley. Ginger beer is produced from the same plant, but by adding a small amount of ginger root to the mash.
It is my opinion that the two are not related. I don’t think that ginger is related to Scotch. You can get ginger beer (and sometimes scotch) from any of the five major brands of beer, but ginger is not an ingredient in any of them.

I’ve tried ginger ale and its not exactly what I imagine the ginger ale is. There is a lot of ginger flavor in it, but the ginger flavor is completely lacking. In fact, it tastes like a light, watered down beer. I don’t know what makes it ginger ale, but I am definitely not a fan. My theory is that the ginger flavor is so mild that it’s nearly inedible.
