sparkling yuzu

A few days ago, I was eating some zucchini and basil when I started to feel a bit down. It turned out that I was having a bad day and was having a bad attitude. I made a stop at the grocery store and ended up buying more zucchini than I could eat. Then I tried the yuzu. I had been wanting to try it ever since my husband started going to the store and was in the mood for something good.

Yuzu are a bright, yellow, very fresh green vegetable, so I’m not sure why I wasn’t thinking of it for ages. I guess I just assumed it would be more of a summer vegetable. The reason I was happy to find out it’s a winter vegetable is because it brings out the very best of both the summer and winter flavors.

I think I may have just had the “green” version of the yuzu. I think I had some green zucchini, but my nose and throat were already burning from the yuzu. It was like having a fresh apple, and that’s a flavor I don’t particularly like in the summer. But the yuzu was so fresh that it was like having a new fruit in the summer.

I really like the yuzu, but I think it is something that I should avoid in my diet. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I’m not a big fan of pears and melons and I think it is best to avoid anything that tastes like those. But yuzu is definitely one of my favorite fall fruits, and when I saw it on sale I grabbed a bag.
